Over the past ten years, technology has grown in ways that many people did not predict and this is true even for experts in the field of technology. This growth and jump in terms of technology have completely changed how people live their lives and has altered the means by which people interact with businesses. The best example of how this is true deals with people ordering products online and having them delivered to their home.
Now that there are more consumers ordering products online than ever before, retail packaging has become a huge part of business brands. Not only do brands have to make sure that they have packaging that protects their products they also have to make their packaging as environmentally responsible as possible. Here are all of the ways in which packaging can have an impact on the success of a business.
Right now more than half of all people around the globe will make decisions on what they buy based on packaging. These people will decide what they want to buy based on whether or not a brand makes positive social and environmental impact. This just goes to show that consumers are worried about retail packaging, thermoformed packaging, clam packaging, and clamshell packaging.
Some statistics have recently been revealed in regards to what is done with plastic packaging after it is used. This stat revealed that out of all the 78 million metric tons produced in 2013, nearly 40% was dumped into landfills and 32% of the plastic was leaked into the environment. These are both two methods that pollute the land and the sea. Retail packaging has now worked to adapt by implementing reusable packaging that can be recycled.
Unfortunately, retail packaging has yet to completely change its methods. A large portion of the world’s plastic waste will still end up inside of the ocean which is absolutely horrendous for the environment. This plastic waste will end up causing damages that can amount to nearly $13 billion. As a matter of fact, a recent report from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation has predicted that by the year of 2050 there may be more plastic than fish in the ocean.
A blister package that folds onto itself is referred to as a clamshell package in the world of retail packaging. This is the most commonly used type of packaging amongst businesses to ship products. Companies like Amazon use this type of packaging all of the time to ship out their products to consumers.
Green packaging is often discussed as the future of retail packaging. This is because people care more and more about recycling as the years go on and want to make sure they are contributing their business to companies that truly value the health and safety of the environment.
According to a 2016 West Rock Consumer Insights Study, 26% of respondents said that the packaging of a product is extremely important to their overall satisfaction. That same West Rock Insight Study also revealed that only 14% of consumers feel that brands are making an effort to improve packaging to satisfy consumer needs. This study also revealed that 66% of consumers have tried a new product because the packaging caught their eye.
There is no question that retail packaging is incredibly important amongst consumers and business across the nation and even across the globe. Consumers care more about retail packaging than they do the products themselves sometimes and they will be motivated to make purchases due to the packaging. This is why businesses across the globe are working hard to change their packaging methods to help protect the environment and to appeal to consumers across the world.
