Keeping any sort of industrial area clean can be a hard job. However, when it’s outdoors, it’s not as crucial because the open air helps to keep things safe. But, if you own or work in a factory or a warehouse, that’s a little trickier. You need certain things to keep the air moving like commercial fans or chimney exhaust fans, depending on the type of factory or warehouse you are running. Keeping a factory or warehouse clean is important not only because of the organization and cleanliness that is required by law in these businesses but because of the safety factors that are involved. If a machine leaks oil then it can make the floors slippery and someone could fall and severely hurt themselves. If there are piles of debris or pallets around, it will block visibility which makes driving a forklift or a crane very dangerous. Here are a few ways that you can keep your facility clean.
- Create a Regularly Cleaning Schedule
Having a schedule will ensure that everything actually gets done and that it gets done when it should. It also eliminates the need for a huge clean up project. Cleaning on a schedule will offer a good maintenance routine on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and even yearly basis. During the routine cleaning, the slick spots, any damage and the other kinds of problems will be noticed and taken care of. Critical areas like doorways and working areas should be cleaned on a daily basis but commercial fans and things of that nature only need maintenance once a month or every six months, depending on the type of work that is getting done. - Empty the Trash
This one has to have its own point. The problem is that the trash is the one thing that everyone seem to procrastinate on. Don’t let the trashes get to the point where they are overflowing. The trash shouldn’t be allowed to sit. Even if the can isn’t full, it should still be taken out at the end of every work day. Chances are that the construction dust and debris and scraps aren’t the only things that are going to be in the trash so some of these things won’t do well being left a long time. You don’t want to come in the next day to rotting smells and worse. Plus, trash left over longer periods of time can attract critters and pests that are not suitable for the environment and facility. Even commercial fans can’t blow that smell away for awhile. - Set a Clean as You Go Policy
It’s easy to get so caught up in your work that you forget to clean up behind you. If you make it a requirement for people to clean when they are finished with a certain project, then you’ll be able to keep the space a lot better looking. Make sure that the employees are cleaning up metal shavings, unused pallets and other things. If the worker is stationed at a packing center, all supplies should be kept organized and neat and scraps or used material thrown away in the appropriate garbage cans. Of course, even some things that are used daily can’t be cleaned daily, such as commercial fan so that’s where the schedule comes in. - Make Cleaning Easy
If you require a worker to sweep, provide a broom. Make the various cleaning supplies easily accessible for the people that are going to need them. Warehouses can be pretty big and it will waste a lot of time and therefore money, if you are making all of your employees walk half way across the factory, looking for a broom. Provide enough trashcans so that people have no excuse for throwing things on the floor. Garbage cans are very inexpensive and there’s no such thing as too many, for the most part. So, if you are asking your workers to wipe down the machinery, make sure that not only the cleaning supplies are available but also trashcans to throw the wipes. Cleaning hard to reach places like commercial fans should have ladders and long handled cleaners available as well as the supplies themselves.
