The environmental movement has grown in recent years, buoyed by documentaries like An Inconvenient Truth, which featured Al Gore and his “passion” for environmental work. Other documentaries soon followed as the issue was raised in the nation’s consciousness and people started to either realize or detract from the possibility of catastrophe.

An estimated 150 million metric tons of plastic currently resides in the world’s oceans. A 2016 Ellen MacArthur Foundation report stated that if we don’t take action, by the year 2050, there may be more plastic than fish in the ocean. It’s a significant problem for many that seem to think that plastic in the ocean will damage the world’s ecosystem.

There certainly seems to be a great deal of plastic in the ocean. A significant amount of the world’s plastic waste ends up in the ocean, where it causes damages amounting to at least $13 billion per year. There are many strategies being thought up about how to curtail this kind of plastic waste being thrown into the ocean.

Of the 78 million metric tons of plastic packaging produced worldwide in 2013, 40% was dumped in landfills and 32% was ?leaked? into to the environment, polluting both land and sea. Reusable packaging can help reduce this kind of waste. Many people are thinking about turning to reusable packing as a way to reduce this kind of waste.

Reusable packaging is a strong component of what Americans might do to curtail this kind of water pollution. Plastic is called water pollution when it ends up in the oceans and in our rivers and streams. This is an issue for animals, including fish who get stuck in plastic coke wrapping and birds that get their heads stuck in it as well.

There are many who are becoming excited about the possibility of helping out with the degradation of our environment. The environment is supposed to be part of what we thrive in, rather than something that we’ve pushed aside and are doing everything we can to not be part of nature.

There are those who disagree with the environmental individuals, calling this “crusade” to be a part of the environmental lobby and are “alarmists” in their words. It is possible though that both sides have a point, that these individuals are “raising the alarm” are doing so for profit motive rather than the truth.

However, those that are protecting the environment call for certain things that often make sense on many levels. For instance, the “scientists” that are shutting down the environmental studies and points within the nation’s consciousness are often those similar scientists as for the cigarette lobby.

Also, as is shown in Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, the rise in carbon dioxide emissions has become man-made and is beyond the scope of what was clearly done in past history. This could result in flooding that will rise and take over some of the nation’s low lying areas such as parts of New York City and New Orleans.

That said, there are options available for those who wish to contribute to the easing of water pollution. Some of these options include recycling, using reusable packaging, and buying from companies that practice conservation, which many are now doing. For instance, the following statistic says a lot:

52% of people around the world make purchase decisions partially due to packaging that shows a brand making a positive social and environmental impact.

One of the options people use is called clamshell packaging. Clamshell packaging is a one piece container with a small divider in the middle and that is closed by a hinge, like the type often seen in containing blueberries and other berries in the supermarket today. Clamshell packaging solutions may be good for the environment.

Clamshell packaging is similar to a blister pack and often folds onto itself. However, clamshell packaging wrapping is tightly sealed. It goes by numerous terms including, thermoformed clamshell packaging solutions, the user friendly clamshell packaging solutions, clamshell packaging solutions, clam cases, clam packaging and others.

It may be an important thing to save the environment. The continued use of fossil fuels has led to pollution in the world, from China to India to the United States. There are many solutions for trying to stop it.
