Here are 3 Things to Consider When Moving a Manufacturing Facility

Posted on October 11, 2019 by Business Success

Manufacturing currently makes up 11.6% of the United States’ GDP. An estimated 4.6 million manufacturing jobs will be needed in the next decade alone. As the need for manufacturing grows, companies will move to new, and larger facilities to accommodate the needs of their business. No matter how necessary the move is, relocating a manufacturing facility is never easy, and there are many things that will need to be considered during this process. This article will be taking a look at several things to consider when moving a manufacturing facility.

  • Consider Implementing Lean Manufacturing: One thing to consider when moving a manufacturing facility is whether or not you’ll be implementing lean manufacturing in the new facility. Lean manufacturing is a process that aims to eliminate, among other things, as much waste from the process as possible. If lean manufacturing hasn’t been used at your facility before, moving to a new facility could provide the perfect opportunity to start, so it is something that needs to be considered before the move is completed.
  • Consider Speaking With Factory Layout Consultants: Another thing to consider when moving a manufacturing facility is to speak with factory layout consultants. These are people who specialize in consulting on the best ways to put together a factory layout. Unless you’re an expert on the subject yourself, it’s best to speak with at least one or two consultants on this subject. They can work with you on the best way to layout the factory equipment once the move begins in earnest.
  • Consider the Best Ways to Create Optimized Equipment Layout: And finally, a third thing to consider when moving a manufacturing facility is the best ways to create optimized equipment layout. It’s likely you’ve imagined the best ways to organize the equipment layout before, but couldn’t due to the state of the current facility. Now that the company is relocating, however, this is the perfect opportunity to work out what an optimized equipment layout would be and execute the design, greatly increasing efficiency in the process.

In conclusion, there are several things to consider when moving a manufacturing facility. These things include: considering whether to implement lean manufacturing, considering speaking with factory layout consultants, and considering the best ways to create optimized equipment layout in the new facility. These are just a few of the things to be considered when moving a manufacturing facility.
